Reyes Magos

 Los Reyes Magos.

Los reyes magos is a festivity that is very common in Spain ,and in some American countries, and we celebrete it the night of the 5 and the day 6 of january.

This festivity comes from a long time ago, but the real history is that the three kings were astrologers and they appear in the Gospel of Saint Matthew where some magicians are mentioned but no names are given but in the Gospel they say that those magicians came from the East and that they were guieded by a star so they could adorn the king of the jews who had just been born and when they arrived they found the baby in a stable next to María and José. But with the time and studies the scientist who analized the story interpreted the word magician like if they were astrologers because they were able to follow a star.

Then by the middle age, the bible gave the name to the kings Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar. And just as they were part of the Christian religion with the time, it became a holiday.

Nowadays, on the night of January 5, the Three Kings are celebrated throughout Spain and what is done is that processions are held through which parades pass where the Kings, each one in a different parade, and  their henchmen throw sweets and in some cases small gifts such as balls or balloons for the childrens wherever they pass and when it is over, the kinds must have wrote a letter before the night because that night they are going to receive gifts that are opened on the morning of January 6.

And for breakfast we eat a tipically dessert called Roscon de reyes that contain two suprises:a bean and a king, the person who win the bean must pay the Roscon and the person who win the king can do whatever he want the entire day.
