Thanksgiving - Amalee Scheitlin

 

A festivity that we celebrate in the United States is Thanksgiving. It started when English Colonists came to America and they had a harvest feast with the people here. Thanksgiving became an official holiday in 1789 by President George Washington when he wanted “a day of public thanksgiving and prayer”. Families will usually get together and share a meal together which is similar to the harvest feast.

Personally, my family will go to church in the morning and then get together with my family for lunch and supper. For our meal, we will eat turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, salad, bread, and more. For dessert, we eat different kinds of pie. The most popular Thanksgiving pie is pumpkin pie. After we eat everyone is usually tired so we will rest in the living room. Overall, Thanksgiving is a day to be thankful, spend time with family, and eat good food.
